Job Summary

Cares for the animals used in research and development studies. Performs duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals such as feeding and caring for animals, cleaning cages, holding animals for treatment by laboratory technician or maintaining inventory and animal identification records. Performs cleaning/sanitation of animal facility and equipment. Responsible for bio-safety and bio-security of the animals. May partner with pre-clinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-op care and monitoring of animal studies.

We are seeking aBreeder Technician for ourSanofi site located in Framingham, MA.

The following are responsibilities related to the Breeder Technician position:

  • Review, comprehend and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to the facilities. Review, comprehend and comply with Animal Welfare Act, the ‘Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals,’ policies.

  • Use established database systems to manage and track breeding and experimental animals on protocols

  • Perform animal husbandry and animal care support services (e.g. providing feed, water, clean cages, and daily observations of each animal)

  • Receive, examine and properly house incoming animal shipments

  • Clean and sanitize animal rooms, support areas, break rooms, offices and locker rooms

  • Dispose of waste and animal carcasses

  • Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to the species housed

  • Provide other minor technical support (e.g. restraining animals, collecting blood, performing injections, clinical treatments) as directed

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Breeder Technician position:

  • Education: High School Diploma and a minimum of two years of post-high school education.

  • Experience: Minimum of two years experience working in a research animal facility with a minimum of one year of managing rodent breeding colonies, and performing minor technical procedures including, but not limited to injections and bleeding of rodents.

  • Certification/Licensure: AALAS LAT certification preferred. ALAT required within one year. Valid Class C Driver’s License Required.
